The Polar Bear's DenIt's spring time in the arctic. Even Polar Bears like spring. May 06 Bugs and PiñatasWell I seem to have caught that gastro bug that's been going around yesterday. Only made it half way through the day at work and had to go home. Blah. Bill was able to take off early and thank goodness he could drive me. Slept for a bit, and things seemed to settle. Today, aside from being perpetually sleepy, I'm good. Yay! I could not afford to take a sick day this week. I won a Piñata! I entered a draw at a Scotiabank Customer Appreciation day and I won. Now they want me to come in and have my picture taken with the manager! Okay, now I really need a hair cut. I have no idea what I'll do with it though. Maybe we'll use it for Bill's birthday party (tentatively June 7, thinking afternoon BBQ or something, kid friendly... let me know what you think). Apparently there was a bit of a crime spree in our complex last night. Woke up this morning and saw the neighbour talking to the police. After I dropped off Duncan I saw another neighbour freaking out because her van had been broken into. So someone was busy. Jerks. May 05 Monday MorningGood morning everyone, I was going to blog last night, but just didn’t feel like it. I find I don’t actually spend much time on the computer at home. Probably because I sit in front of one all day long. How was your weekend? Ours was great! Saturday was a really good productive day – got up early and took care of a bunch of little things we’ve been putting off. Duncan started swimming lessons again, and he had a blast with that. I’m glad he’s comfortable in the pool. Afterwards we did some shopping (had to buy new shoes for D again – silly growing feet!) and then visited Oma and Opa quick at the plant sale for the Maple Ridge Garden Club. In the evening Oma and Opa (well mostly Oma, because Opa didn’t show up until later) babysat and we went and saw Ironman. We really enjoyed it! It was almost sold out when we got there, so we were in the 2nd row, but it was a good movie. I wouldn’t mind seeing it again not at a 45 degree neck angle J Sunday was church – Duncan did good in the nursery, which is good. B/c usually he only lasts for half of church and then needs mama or dada. Afterwards he marched right back into the sanctuary because there was still music and singing and danced to “In Christ Alone”. Didn’t know it was a dance song did you? J Later in the afternoon we met up with Oma and Opa again and went to the Maple Ridge Home Show, which was fun. We then went and saw my Oma – who loved seeing Duncan – and then we all went for a walk at Kanaka Creek Park. It was a really great day, nice to get some fresh air, and Duncan slept very soundly last night! This coming weekend Ronnie is taking Duncan and Bill and I are taking off for the weekend. That will be fun. I need another coffee. Have a good day! May 02 Oops! Still don't have it perfect Friends and Family, I am here today to admit to you that I am not the perfect Mom. I know, I know, shock and dismay are rippling through the crowds right now... So, what, you might ask, brings up this earth shattering confession this morning? Well I'll tell you! At night, before I go to bed I put a sippy cup of water in Duncan's crib so that if he is thirsty at night he's not getting Mommy and Daddy up for a drink of water. Well last night I did this, however I failed to check whether or not the cup had a valve in it. It didn't. We were woken up at 1:30 AM to cries from Mr. Roo's room. Upon checking on him he was soaking wet and so were his sheets. Either he'd knocked the cup over in his sleep, or he'd been drinking from it, but either way everything was wet. So change him, change the sheets, snuggle him back to happiness (he was quite upset...) and then I laid awake for a bit yet until I knew he'd gone back to sleep. He crashed pretty quick. I feel bad though! I'd be pretty choked if I woke up to a soaking wet bed too! Otherwise, it was a nice night. Thursday's are Bill's WOW night, so I usually go over to Theresa's and we hang out. I brought 3:10 to Yuma along, but although it was on, we talked through the whole thing. So late bed time, up during the night, up early... yep, going to be a long day. April 30 Shop Hop PlansHi everyone! Wow everyone's been all active and moving blogs around etc... they look good ladies. Maybe I'll think about it. I have an account with LiveJournal , but I haven't been too keen on how their layout looks. Anyhow, I made an executive decision about the Shop Hop today. I had originally hope my Mom might join me for the trip, but then she said she wasn't sure she would be able to. Theresa also said she would be interested, but only if we went for one day. I had previously asked Ronnie, but since she's not even remotely interested in quilting, she wasn't too interested. Due to indecisiveness from other people Bill and I discussed it, and I decided I'm just going to go on my own. The Quilt Shop Hop has become a yearly event I really look forward to. It usually gives me a chance to see my best friend from college, Lisa, who lives in New Mexico, and from a quilting point of view, it inspires me. So I rearranged my flex day schedule, and I'll rent a car and go down for the Friday and Saturday, meeting up with Lisa, Tia and some other friends, and spending the night at Tia's on Camano Island. So I told Mom, and she's fine with it because she and Dad might be going on a road trip then anyhow. I made all my plans with Lisa and Tia and then said to Ronnie "here is how it goes, here are my plans, and I would love it if you're interested in tagging along for a few days for a cheap get away and meeting my college friends." What's cool is Ronnie is actually interested. I think it would be loads of fun, and reasonably cheap b/c we'll be at Tia's for the night (thanks Tia!!), and we might actually be carpooling for a good portion of our shop hopping, so gas won't even be a huge factor. We'll need to pay for a few meals, but that should be it. I'm really excited this is coming together and look forward, as always, to seeing the girls. I haven't been blogging as much lately - just busy with life. Work is busy but good (yes, work is good - I'd still rather be home with my Picklehead, but the Lord has made the change in our lives very manageable). I haven't been spending much time at work reading and blogging, and at home at night I don't usually feel like it either. But I do pray everyone is well. It was awesome seeing a few of you last weekend. Oh, and let me blog about last weekend. I already went on to Ronnie about this - I have never been less interested in a product in my life. I did not appreciate how I was (we all were) stuck there for an hour and a half listening to her spiel on about her pyramid scheme and try and sell us the company. Tara, honey, if I ever need a new skin product, I'll be seeing you long before someone selling that other product line. Gah!! April 25 Yay, Bill is home tonightBill has been out of town all week. I didn’t think it would be smart to talk about that while he was gone because then people would know that me and the kid were home alone. I’m not paranoid, but I figure better safe than sorry. Poor Duncan has been missing his Dada so badly this week. A few meltdowns to say the least. On Wednesday night we did a webcam thing with Bill and Duncan was so excited to see Dada, but when we were done he was so upset b/c he kept expecting Daddy to walk through the door. So we decided no more of that. Last night Mom and Dad had Duncan and me over again for dinner and to hang out, and this was a really good distraction for Duncan. I actually did fine. I wasn’t crying all lonely or anything. I missed him, but I surprisingly slept alright. I thought I was going to sleep poorly but I guess I was so pooped, that wasn’t an issue. Get Duncan, play, have dinner, clean him up, get him to bed, clean up, get lunches together, then my dinner… well it was usually 8:30 – 9:00 at that point so that was the night. Nothing too exciting. I was hoping to get some quilting done, but that really didn’t happen. But tonight Daddy is home. I actually think Duncan is going to cry when he sees Bill “where have you been?!” but we all have a 3 day weekend, so it’s going to be some good Duncan and Daddy time in there. April 23 Erg!I'm pooped this morning! Poor Picklehead's teeth are just bugging him, and so he was up around 1. You know he almost never actually gets us up during the night, like it can be weeks or months between times when he does, so I think it hits us that much harder. We had a fantastic night though. Went to Mom and Dad's for dinner. Duncan had a great time seeing Oma and Opa. And even Uncle Jeff popped by, so that was cool. We were home by 8 and D was ready for bed! Theresa is bringing Juno over tonight for us to watch, which should be fun. Let's see, other random things... Saturday is Ronnie's spa party where she wants people to come but doesn't want anyone to buy anything. That's at 3. Come on out! Sunday we're planning (we being Ronnie, Alexandra and I) on going to some open houses in the afternoon b/c it's fun :) Bill and D will hang out with Chris and Iain for a bit. We signed Duncan up for swimming again, and Bill's and my get away weekend is coming up fast! Will be fun. I think Duncan is going to have a good time with Auntie Rhonda, and I know she's more than capable of handling him for a weekend, so while we'll miss him, I know he's in good hands. Lots to do. Have a good day. or have a baby. There's a few of you. Go have them :) Okay, only if you're supposed to now. If it's too early, don't :) April 21 Oh boy!I was that Mom with that screaming kid in WalMart on Saturday. I don't get out to WalMart often. It's just not convenient, but I was paging through the flyer on Saturday and found a few things I'd love to pick up, so decided I'd take my boy out for a bit in the afternoon and give Bill a bit of Bill time. So, um, yeah, meltdown! Combination of hungry and teething, but also stubbornness he wanted out to walk and help push the cart. That's cute and all, but it means it takes forever to get up and down aisles, WM is busy, and he's also not content to wait when I need to stop and grab something. Finally I had to put him back in the cart and he threw such a fit! It was actually quite funny, but I couldn't laugh at him b/c it would have made it worse. I actually didn't get flustered at all, but people were staring!! The worst part for me was that I didn't get the one thing I went to find out of the flyer!! Uhg! (It was a microrfibre queen sized comforter for $18, which I thought would be perfect for the summer). Oh well! I have declared to Bill that I'm not taking Duncan shopping any more - at least for a while. Bill joined us on a trip to SuperStore and witnessed 1st hand our restless little picklehead, so he agreed. April 19 Out little walking manA few of you have seen this already, but Duncan has officially got the hang of walking. Big boy! Check him out at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH6nC1n4Lsk April 17 Text messagingYesterday I sent my very 1st text message ever. To many of you, this may be amusing, but really, I've never really had cause to do it before. But I broke through the next realm of technology and have now sent 4!! Bill even jumped into the texting world and sent one back. He he... it's fun! Now I need to get the hang of typing on the keypad. |
